Wow! Incredible Critical Mass ride this past Friday. At least 140 cyclists participated in the August ride, this was our largest group thus far, surpassing last month's ride where an estimated 85-90 riders attended. It's amazing how we almost doubled the amount of participants from one month to the next. I witnessed lots of faces & bicycles I've never seen before and of course some of the regulars. Miami Critical Mass attracted cyclists from as far as Jupiter (not the planet) and quite a few folks from Broward County. The group rode through Miracle Mile, Merrick Park, University Of Miami, Sunset Place, and through Calle Ocho. My personal goal for Critical Mass was finally reached, to have at least 100 riders join us on a ride. I must admit the sea of cyclists coming down the SW 2nd Avenue bridge towards 7th Street was surreal. The video doesn't do it justice, a really amazing thing to witness and be a part of in a car-centric city such as Miami. Thanks to all those who came from near & far to participate in our monthly ride, it's nothing without your support. Also special thanks to those who volunteer & cork at the intersections, help others out with bicycle malfunctions, flat tires, etc. The ride is getting bigger and we will need more volunteers & courteous people to make it a smooth affair.

If you have pictures or videos from the ride you are encouraged to upload them to the Miami Critical Mass Facebook group.

Total distance ridden was about 21 miles, the route was not followed correctly and we went slightly off course for a few minutes due to some riders in the front leading the group when they themselves should be following. The route is posted beforehand to avoid wrong turns. For those interested, here is a link to the route.

Here's the video from the August 28th ride.

Please add the "last Friday of the month" Miami Critical Mass group on Facebook or Myspace if you have not already done so.

Next month's Critical Mass ride will be on Friday, September 25th. This will be an average length ride (12-15 miles) and will not exceed 20 miles like the July & August rides.
