Plan Z For Miami Exhibition Opening

Friday March 3rd
6pm-10pm REGISTER

Coral Gables Museum
285 Aragon Avenue
Coral Gables, FL 33134

Plan Z for Miami 'From Infrastructure To Open Space' looks at how Plan Z for Miami transforms the Rickenbacker Causeway from a dangerous roadway into an active urban park.

Making Rickenbacker Causeway into Rickenbacker Park is an interactive exhibit that invites visitors to imagine the transformation of a single-purpose section of transportation infrastructure into a safe and vibrant recreational open space. Curated and sponsored by Plan Z for Miami, a nonprofit foundation, the exhibit illustrates how a strictly utilitarian roadway can be reimagined to become a safe, lively, multi-purpose urban park with 20 acres of new waterfront space..

Global Urban Mobility Expert, Mikael Colville-Andersen, Founder and CEO of Copenhagenize, and Plan Z's founder Bernard Zyscovich, will be on hand Friday, March 3, 2017 to inaugurate this exhibit and share thoughts on bicycle urbanism and What Miami can learn from Copenhagen.

The concept for Plan Z For Miami was generated in response to the continuing deaths of cyclists on the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami Dade county.

Architect and urban planner Bernard Zyscovich, an ardent lifelong cyclist himself, determined to find a way to make the Rickenbacker Causeway safe for joggers, strollers, walkers, and cyclists. He has developed a plan that will transform the unsafe infrastructure into a safe, lively, multi-purposed 20-acre urban park where urban dwellers can "get out of town" without having to leave the city.

Although the Rickenbacker is one of the most popular bicycling routes in America, no physical division between the cars and bikes exists.

This lack of separation between bikes and cars, excessive speeds and drunk driving has contributed to four fatalities since 2010.

PLAN Z's goal is to help minimize cycling risks while providing uninhibited access to clean air and exercise in a safe, scenic environment while also taking into account future bridge replacement and the potential for sea-level rise.

8th Annual Tour de Broward

Sunday, February 26th

Miramar Regional Park
16801 Miramar Parkway
Miramar, FL 33027

History of the Tour de Broward
For the past seven years on a Sunday morning in February, thousands of people have gathered at Miramar Regional Park, united by one common cause - to support Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital at its annual Tour de Broward event. Now in its eighth year, the need is greater than ever to raise funds for South Broward's only pediatric hospital, which has become the leading children's hospital in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. In Fiscal Year 2016, JDCH cared for children needing 61,607 hospital outpatient visits, 7,455 pediatric surgeries, and 9,538 admissions and observation stays.

What the Tour de Broward Supports
Funds from previous years have supported the hospital's Heart Institute, which provides children with a complete continuum of care from diagnosis to repair of congenital defects and other cardiac dysfunctions. It houses the Pediatric Heart Transplant Program, one of only two of its kind in South Florida. Funds have also supported programs for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, helping to improve the lives of many oncology patients and families. However, the need is greater this year because funds raised will help support programs throughout Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, as it aims to grow in the community and continue to expand services.
