Broward's Bikeshare Program, B-cycle, is Hiring



They are looking for someone with experience as a bicycle mechanic who can also drive a truck (must have driver's license and good driving record) to move bikes across stations within the county. Broward B-cycle employees work for Trek USA and are eligible for discounts of up to 60% on bikes and gear. This is an entry-level position but with multiple opportunities for advancement both within the technical field and across Trek's marketing, sales and administrative teams, locally & globally.

Trek Bikes and Broward B-cycle are looking for dependable, fun, bike-loving people to join our team in Ft. Lauderdale. We are currently hiring both part-time & full-time positions.

Candidates must be able to work independently as well as in a team, and have a high level of motivation and energy. This a fun, flexible work environment. You will be required to diagnose problems and manage repairs of a unique, top-quality fleet of more than 275 heavily used B-bikes.

Rumble in the Jungle

"The Rumble in the Jungle is a 50 mile mountain bike race with Solo and Team categories. Teams may consist of up to 4 riders.

Class designation is the last class you raced in during the past 5 years. Sport team no more than one Expert member. Intermediate team no more than one Sport member. Novice team no more than one Intermediate member. All Teams are considered CO-ED."

All profits from the Rumble in the Jungle benefit race go into the Markham Park Trail Building Fund, a Florida non-profit corporation with the sole purpose of raising and managing funds for the building and maintenance of the Markham Park Mountain Bike Trail system.

Tamiami Bike Polo



We're playing bike polo every Wednesday between 3:30pm and sunset at the Tamiami Park roller hockey rink. The court is located on the west side of the park which is approximately SW 117th Avenue & 20th Street. Stop by if you're in the area, it's next to FIU (Modesto campus).

North Miami Avenue Cycle Track



Here's a preview of the forthcoming physically protected bike path on N. Miami Avenue (Downtown/Park West). The preliminary rendering is from the view outside The Corner. To learn more about OPRA's initiatives to improve Downtown Miami (not just Grand Central Park) "like" their page and visit their monthly forum on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at The Garrett which is located upstairs from Grand Central Miami.

The Vuelta a Miami is back for it's forth installment come Sunday, July 29th. The 80 mile race through Miami-Dade is considered the largest and toughest cycling race in South Florida.

The Fakawi (3rd Annual) Video



Check out this video from the 3rd Annual Fakawi ride last month. The Fakawi is the largest group mtb ride in Florida, over 300 cyclists showed up and rode around Weston through the rain, deep puddles, and mud.

Stolen Bike Alert



Red 2005 Cannondale Prophet 1000 Lefty stolen this weekend. It was locked to a bike rack located at Paramount Bay (2020 N Bayshore Drive) 3rd floor parking garage, bike storage area. My bike was locked with a Surelock Protector U-Lock. Components include: Cannondale Lefty Shock (Black), Fox Rear Shock, Cannondale Lefty Head Wrench Tool Kit, Cannondale Seatbag, Profile Aerobar, iBike Mount, Shimano Dual Platform Pedals, Selle Royal Seat w/light. Miami Critical Mass : June Photos & Video

Close to 2000 cyclists participated in the June Critical Mass ride last Friday evening making it the largest one since it's inception in May 2007. As the ride continues to gradually grow let's focus on keeping it safe and civil. Below are links to photos and a video:

Magic City Bicycle Collective is Open!



Magic City Bicycle Collective

The Magic City Bike Collective will open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-9pm, and Saturdays from 2-6pm. If you are interested in volunteering, please stop by during those hours for orientation and training. They will officially open to the public on July 17th. The community workspace will provide affordable prices on used bicycles and parts, maintenance classes, repair services, and educational workshops. For $5 an hour you will be able to use their space and tools to work on bikes. Locals can also "Earn-A-Bike" by volunteering a minimum of 20 hours at the collective. They'll also host a "Ladies Night" on the last Thursday of every month where females can come learn the basics of bicycle repair from other women.

If you have any unwanted bicycles, parts and/or tools feel free to donate the item(s) to the collective by dropping them off during business hours.
