I went up to Broward early today to check out the Bill Bone Pro-Am #5 / Downtown Ft. Lauderdale Criterium. I arrived at 8am and was able to watch the Cat 5, followed by the Womens 1-4, Cat 4 and Masters 55+ race. Unfortunately I had to take off early and could not stay for the Pro 1/2 race at 1:15pm.
The course was exciting and technical as expected, one turn in particular may have been too much to handle for some riders forcing them to lose control into a haystack, it's still up for debate whether loose hay strands on the road triggered the crashes or poor cornering skills. Fortunately no one was seriously injured even though one cyclist was taken away in a stretcher, luckily he returned a few minutes later bandaged up.
Map of the course
I took a lot of photos but the majority of them came out bad and blurry, I don't think there's one good flick in the whole batch. I should probably find out what the settings on my camera actually do, because the auto settings are not working out for photographing fast moving subjects.
Below is a short clip of the start & finish of the Cat 5 race.
Winners - Cat 5
1. Bernardo Nardo
2. Edward Matute
3. Alex Fix
Shout out to Bike Werx & Sun Cycling for representing MIA in FTL.
