Friday, June 17th

Art and Culture Center of Hollywood
1650 Harrison Street
Hollywood, FL 33020

"New-York-based contemporary artist Ryan Humphrey incorporates BMX bikes in dynamic 2- and 3-dimensional works. Fast Forward features a large-scale, floor-to-ceiling installation in which BMX bikes are attached to the gallery walls. The installation includes a massive wrap-around rug, a collection of bike-inspired paintings and mixed-media pieces, and three interpretations of Marcel Duchamp’s Bicycle Wheel (1913) set against BMX bike ramps. An interactive activity area is also a part of the exhibition. The show runs from June 18th – August 14th, 2011

Fast Forward was included in the Queens International 4 exhibition at the Queens Museum of Art and in the group show Bicycle: people + ideas in motion at the Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. Humphrey will attend the opening reception with BMX pioneer and special guest Dizz Hicks."

Florida Old School BMX Faction, a local group of bike enthusiasts, will host an outdoor presentation featuring a display of vintage bikes and screening of the BMX documentary Joe Kid on a Stingray. They’ll construct a custom Hoffman Bikes “Loyalty” model, valued at approximately $1,000, which will be given away in a free random drawing at the end of the event (must be present to win)."
