Miami-Dade County will break ground on construction of The Underline's Phase 1, Brickell Backyard on Thursday, November 1st. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on the future Underline (currently M-Path) near the Miami River at SW 7th Street and SW 1st Court. Where will The Underline go?
10 miles from Downtown to South Miami-Dade County.

Improved public safety, mobility and transportation options.

10 miles of separated off-road bike and pedestrian facilities, LED lighting and wayfinding.

120 acres of native vegetation reforestation, 4,000 trees and 20 butterfly gardens.

Local, national and international public art.

Recreational and exercise facilities plus cultural, educational, health, wellness and environmental programming.

Timeline
There are nine planned phases. Miami- Dade County will build by phase:

Phase 1  Construction begins Spring 2019
Phase 2  Construction begins End of 2019
Phase 3–9  Construction dates to be determined

Funding
The total construction and design budget is $120 million and over $90 million in public funds have been committed.

The art master plan and development
will be a collaboration of Art in Public Places of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Friends of the Underline Art Advisory and Argentine curator Ximena Caminos.

The Underline is led by Friends of The Underline 501C3 in partnership with Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works. Additional support from the Cities of Miami, Coral Gables, South Miami, the State of Florida and FDOT.

Lead donors include the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Swire Properties.
