Explore Miami with Dade Heritage Trust Urban Bike Tours!

Dade Heritage Trust invites you to join us the second Sunday of each month and get to know the beauty, diversity, architecture and history of the Magic City on a bike! Our 2022 Urban Miami Bike Tours provide amazing opportunities to learn about new places and historic spaces throughout Miami. All tours begin at Dade Heritage Trust, 190 SE 12 Terrace, unless otherwise noted. Dade Heritage Trust does not provide bikes. Riders must bring their own bikes or rent a Citibike nearby. Riders must be experienced and confident enough to navigate urban Miami streets.

Sunday, January 9: Tour of The Roads & Shenandoah Join DHT, the Friends of the Underline, the Friends of the Commodore Trail and Bike Walk Coral Gables for a great ride through Miami’s Roads and Shenandoah neighborhoods! Learn about Underline updates and plans as the ride takes you through two of Miami's loveliest neighborhoods to learn about their history and great residential architecture. Complimentary refreshments and gift bags, too! Ride starts at Dade Heritage Trust at 190 SE 12 Terrace at 10am. FREE!

Saturday, February 12: Secret Garden Tour of Coconut Grove What better place to explore on your bike than Coconut Grove? Add in the discovery of Secret Gardens and you have an amazing way to spend your Saturday and benefit our bike partners, Friends of the Commodore Trail! For DHT’s February bike tour, we are participating and encourage you to participate in the “Secret Gardens of Coconut Grove Bike Tour” as a fundraiser for the Commodore Trail Bike Trail and its future improvement plans. Sunday, March 20: Bike and BBQ In partnership with Bike Walk Coral Gables and starting at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Avenue, participants will cycle to beautiful Matheson Hammock Park on Cutler Road for a great BBQ and live music, too!

Sunday, April 10: Let’s Pedal Overtown! Starting at Dade Heritage Trust HQ at 190 SE 12 Terrace in Brickell, we’ll explore the historic Overtown neighborhood of Miami where DHT is actively working to create a Federal Historic District.

Sunday, May 15: Bike to The Barnacle from the Coral Gables Museum – We join our friends at Bike Walk Coral Gables for a nice ride to Coconut Grove for a tour of the Barnacle State Park, the home of Commodore Ralph Munroe and namesake of the Commodore Trail bike trail. Munroe was a Renaissance man known for his expertly crafted sailboats, early photography, environmental advocacy, and lifelong love of South Florida. The Barnacle is the oldest home in Miami to be in its original location.

Sunday, June 12: Adventure to Allapattah – Starting at Dade Heritage Trust, we ride to the Brickell Metrorail and put our bikes on the train, departing at the Santa Clara Station where we pedal through Allapattah’s warehouse district to Allapattah’s Little Santo Domingo Main Street. Some special stops make this a most interesting and tasty tour! Thanks to Miami-Dade Transit for supplying Metrorail passes for this awesome adventure!

Sunday, July 17: Cool Canopies – Starting at the Coral Gables Museum, this bike tour winds through the tree-lined, shady streets of Coral Gables. Specimen trees, native gardens and the tree varieties that make Coral Gables the City Beautiful are highlighted. Cool Canopies is a perfect tour for a warm July Sunday!

Sunday, September 18: Exploring the Miami River Greenway – With partners Bike Walk Coral Gables, Friends of the Commodore Trail and Friends of the Underline and starting at Dade Heritage Trust, this tour introduces riders to the Miami River Greenway. The bike path winds past some wonderful historic places with great riverfront views. Stops at the Lummus Park Historic District, historic Fort Dallas, the Spring Garden Historic District, the River Inn Miami and Jose Marti Park.

Sunday, October 9: The Historic Miami City Cemetery – located in the OMNI District just north of downtown Miami, the Miami City Cemetery is at once a park, a museum and the final resting place for many pioneers, early business leaders and the founder of the City of Miami, Julia Tuttle! The route to the Cemetery provides some great urban Miami vistas, too!

Sunday, November 13: Coral Rocks! – Dade Heritage Trust is leading an initiative to protect, preserve and designate Miami’s coral rock (aka oolitic limestone homes) and this tour will introduce riders to the vast number of these structures that exist throughout urban Miami! Where else but Miami are there homes made of coral? Shenandoah, Little Havana and Silver Bluff neighborhoods will be visited along the way.

Sunday, December 11: The Miami Design District and Historic Buena Vista East – What better time than the holidays to tour Miami’s iconic Design District? High end stores, shady streets, public art and more. We’ll also visit the adjacent Buena Vista East Historic District with its great and varied residential architecture. Happy Holidays!
